Friday 14th October Club Meeting

Friday 14th October Club Meeting – Pixies, Soldering, FT8 and, finally, CW! Another great club night….

Thanks all who could attend, and our commiserations to Matt, Carl, Lee, Andy, John, Craig and Neil being stuck at work or other commitments! Our club meeting was in the Fillongley Village Hall as usual, with Brian G3YYT bringing 40m transceiver Pixie kits and instrument cases (tobacco tins of course!). The soldering table was pretty busy, and we’ll be continuing to assemble these at following meetings. Andrew 2E0HUY, Al M0SLO, Jim G4AEH, Mike M6WYW, Dave G8OMB and Kev G0LDP assembled and helped out on the exercise.

We had Matt G5MAT bringing his 40m EFHW, again very effective on his Icom 705 QRP and receiving FT8 messages across continents. He’s planning to do a quick explanation and demo for people to try out at one of the next meetings.

Al M0SLO brought his Yaesu FT857D to use on HF. Ray G3ZSQ brought his Morse key, and he, Michael G4GHJ and Jim G4AEH spent a couple of fun hours with the 857D, especially after sorting out the 857D settings for CW! Michel operating in the video, Jim and Michel operating in the pictures with Kev, Ray and John (SWL) looking on with the rest of us working on the practical in the corner! I’m now determined to get started on my CW, thanks for demonstrating. More CW nights seem certain!
